1 - Make the spot you fish better than when you arrived. Do not leave trash, used fishing line, bait containers, etc.
Bring a little out with you that someone else left behind.
2 - Use legal methods, and do not keep fish illegally.
Do not take fish you do not think will be eaten, unless taken to a taxidermist, or wildlife authority in the case of record catch.
3
- Do not introduce living things from one body of water into another. Irreparable damage to aquatic balance may result as a
consequence of such an action. This includes using live minnows or goldfish not indigenous to the water.
4
- Do not clean fish caught at one body of water in another. This can spread disease.
5 - Do not dump waste in or near any
body of water
6 - Do your best to set the hook before the fish has had a chance to swallow it. Gut hooking fish increases
mortality rates substantially
7 - Do not overplay the fish. Although "the battle" is the reason most of us fish, overplaying
a fish is far the leading cause of fish mortality. Reel your catch in as quickly as possible.
8 - Get the fish unhooked
and back in the water as quickly as possible, and with no more handling than is necessary. Do not allow the fish to jump
around on the bank or the floor of your boat. The destruction of the slime coat of a fish is another leading cause of mortality.
9
- Do not release the fish until it can easily swim away on its own. Move the fish forward and backward in the water, until
it is revived.
10 - Use "The Golden Rule" when interacting with other anglers. Treat them in a manner you would want to
be treated.
11 - Do not fish private waters without acquiring permission from owner or government agency.
12 - Do not fish
so close to other anglers, whether from boat or shore, that you may cross their lines with your cast or drift.
13 - Do not bring
your pets or children, if you are not willing to take the responsibility for keeping them from annoying other anglers.
14 - Keep
noise to a minimum. Most anglers go to the water to escape radios, boom boxes, and the noise of their everyday worlds.
